在气相流化床聚丙烯工艺中，反应器内的丙烷由原料丙烯带入，随排放气进入回收系统后排出。丙烷在反应器内不参与化学反应，其作用是与丙烯一起维持反应器C3分压和冷凝量的稳定，与氮气组成反应器内惰性组分的动态平衡。操作经验表明，当丙烷浓度维持在正常范围内时，会有效增加反应热的移除能力，保证聚合反应催化剂活性的相对稳定，同时具有降低丙烯单耗和抑制静电的作用。但如果反应器内的丙烷浓度偏高，特别是在生产负荷较高时，就会给产品出料以及回收系统带来波动，影响反应器内丙烯分压的正常维持，降低反应器的产率和抗干扰能力，给生产长周期平稳运行带来隐患。如果反应器内丙烷浓度偏高时能及时发现并调整，就会有效控制丙烷浓度在正常范围内。
